If you only read the first 100 pages, you will have the essence of this book. In particular read pages 62-63 because here is where the title of the book is explained. It is from Dinka folk lore about creation, Adam & Eve, etc.
Mr. Eggers has written a detailed account of a typical boy soldier from the Sudan. The work is lengthy but worth the reading of it. He gives us maybe too much details. But he seems to want to prove his case that this was a dreadful thing to have happended to anyone - let alone small boys. We go from present (home invasion) to past life experiences. Everything in between is also covered. Not a rock is seemingly left unturned.
Get ready for a slow roller coaster ride through an interesting life of a Lost Boy of the Sudan.
